Parent Governor
notice of ballot

The closing date for nominations for our parent governor vacancy has passed. Five nominations have been received and the governing board is delighted by the response to the parent governor election.

As there are numerous nominations a secret ballot must now take place. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes will secure the role of parent governor for a four-year term of office.

Each parent or carer with a child at The Brooksbank School is entitled to one vote per vacancy regardless of the number of children they have in school.

All votes must be received by 9:00am on Monday 10 March 2025.

Each candidate has been asked to provide a statement in support of their nomination. Please remember that you are voting for the person that you consider to have the skills and experience to undertake the role successfully – it does not matter if you do not personally know the candidate whom you consider would be the right parent for the role. Please refer to the information given in the attached letter, on the role of parent governor and what makes an effective local governor, before placing your vote.

  • I believe I would make an excellent addition to the Local Governing Committee at Brooksbank due to my extensive leadership experience, strategic outlook, and passion for driving meaningful change. Throughout my career in healthcare innovation, I have successfully led complex programmes, collaborated with diverse stakeholders, and ensured impactful outcomes—all skills that translate directly into the governance of a school. I am deeply committed to education and community engagement. Having served as a school governor in primary settings for 18 years, I understand the responsibilities of the role and the importance of creating an inclusive, high-achieving learning environment. I also run local dance festivals, leading on safeguarding and licensing arrangements. As National Programme Director for the Health Innovation Network, I lead large-scale initiatives aimed at reducing inequalities, ensuring strategic objectives are met while maintaining a strong focus on evaluation and measurable impact. My experience in overseeing governance frameworks and managing budgets demonstrates my ability to provide financial oversight and strategic direction—critical components of an effective school governor. With my experience in governance, financial oversight, and strategic leadership, I am confident I can make a positive and lasting contribution as a school governor. I have two children at school, Archie in Year 9 and Georgia in Year 7.

  • As a child protection social worker, I have a passion for safeguarding children and experience working directly with young people at high risk of exploitation. I contribute to EHCPs and believe my skills and knowledge would support the role of parent governor. My background equips me with an understanding of the challenges faced by young people and their parents/carers, enabling me to advocate for their needs effectively. I collaborate daily with multi-agency teams and aim to build strong relationships between the school, parents, and external support services. I seek to represent the interests of all parents and carers while ensuring the school meets its educational and safeguarding responsibilities. My experience as a former student at Brooksbank significantly influenced my career choice and my decision for my own child to attend the school. This gives me valuable insights into the importance of a supportive and inclusive school environment. I understand the commitment required for the role, including attending meetings and training. I am dedicated to continuous professional development to enhance my effectiveness as a governor and achieve positive outcomes for students. My goal is to contribute positively to the school community, engage in school activities, learn more about the experiences of students and their aspirations, and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and socially while feeling safe and supported.

  • I would like to be a parent governor at Brooksbank as my daughter is currently in Yr10 and my son is due to start Yr7 in September, so I have a long term interest in the success of the school. I am currently the Vice Chair of the Great Heights Multi Academy Trust, and have previously been safeguarding lead and Chair of Governors at West Vale Academy, where I experienced an Ofsted inspection of the school. I am really familiar with school governance and believe I can bring that experience to help continue Brooksbank's incredible improvement ahead of its next inspection. In my day job I am Head of Procurement and Supplier Management for a building society so I'm comfortable with finance, contracts and problem solving.

  • I have a long history with the school, firstly as a student and now with my eldest daughter, who is currently in year 10. My youngest daughter will be joining the school in 2 years. My job is Director of a electrical engineering company and have been there since 1997 after finishing my GCSE's at Brooksbank. Only two years earlier I spent two weeks at the same company for my work experience during Year 9. My role as Director covers all areas of our business, including overseeing recruitment, reviewing operational budgets and taking a lead role on modernising certain areas of the business to ensure we continue to thrive in the coming years. Outside of work I have coached my daughters football team for the last 6 years. This requires up to date DBS checks, safeguarding and first aid training along with the relevant FA coaching badges. I take great pride and work hard at the coaching role. It has brought many challenges over the years due to the vast number of children we have had come through the team, all with different personalities and backgrounds. I fully appreciate the challenges that teachers must face on a daily basis. I feel I have the necessary skills and experience to support the school in the role and I am able to commit the time required. Thank you

Professionally, I have held senior roles in learning and development, shaping leadership programs, embedding performance management models, and championing diversity and inclusion.
