Enrichment
Brooksbank is one of the few Sixth Form providers in Calderdale to have a timetabled Enrichment programme for all Sixth Form students. Activities are organised in blocks of 10 weeks.
Students are encouraged to develop their personal skills, qualities gain additional qualifications as well as having fun! The activities available vary from year to year but we try to offer as much variety as possible. Popular choices include learning sign language, photography, music, Sixth Form magazine, cooking on a budget and self-defence.
Other opportunities within Enrichment time include:
Leadership
Many students have developed their self confidence and leadership skills through the Level 3 Sports Leaders UK qualification – a nationally recognised award giving 12 UCAS points. You may also have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills in other areas within school – mentoring younger students, supporting lessons, running extra-curricular activities etc.
Sport
Choose to play recreational football on our fantastic 4G pitch, join our successful football and netball teams to play regular competitive fixtures, or burn off some calories and develop your fitness on our purpose built cycling track.
Work Experience
Many students use enrichment time to complete work experience for vocational courses where it is required as part of the course and to gain valuable experience to boost their CV’s. It can:
Aid in the choice of your future career.
Demonstrate your commitment in a vocational area, to a future educational institution or employer, eg physiotherapy.
Gain a reference for future use.
Charity Work
There are always a range of charity events in the Sixth Form ranging from Pink Day to Talent Shows and activity days. Each form is encouraged to organise at least one event for a chosen charity.
Youth Speaks
Each year we enter several teams into the National public speaking competition Youth Speaks. This has been hugely popular and successful and Sixth Form students from Brooksbank regularly win through to regional stages of the competiton.
Brightspark
Brightspark is the annual Sixth Form Quiz. It is held in Form Period in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Forms in each year compete against each other and then Year 12 winners take on Year 13 winners. In the final week there is a Brightspark Challenge when the winning team compete against 2 staff teams. Prizes are provided by the Sixth Form Committee and a perpetual trophy is presented. This is always a popular event and those not competing make up the audience. Things can get very tense!
Gold Arts Award
Excellent for your CV and your personal development, of similar standing to the Duke of Edinburgh Gold, you will lead projects, extend your skills in the Arts and undertake a short work experience.
