Promoting wellbeing at Brooksbank

At The Brooksbank School, we believe that the emotional wellbeing of our students is just as important as their academic success. We are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel safe to discuss their worries and seek the help they need.

Here are some ways that you can help your child promote their own wellbeing:

  • Encourage regular conversations about emotional wellbeing. Talk to your child about their worries and anxieties and reassure them that it's okay to seek help when they need it.

  • Foster an open and non-judgmental environment. Let your child know that you are there to listen and support them through any challenges they may face.

  • Stay engaged in your child's life. Make time to discuss their worries or concerns and show genuine interest in their wellbeing. You can also offer guidance on finding reliable sources of support, such as helplines or counselling services.

  • Collaborate with school to promote mental health and wellbeing. Support initiatives that prioritise emotional wellbeing.

  • Teach your child about the importance of self-care and stress management techniques. Help them develop healthy coping strategies, such as mindfulness exercises, physical activity, or creative outlets, to manage their own worries and support their friends.

  • Help raise awareness about mental health and the importance of seeking help. Ensure that your child has access to resources like helplines such as Kooth and Childline.

  • Educate your child about the signs of emotional distress in themselves or their friends. Discuss the importance of reaching out for help when someone is struggling and emphasise the value of empathy and support.

  • Be aware that schools have protocols and policies in place to address mental health concerns. Familiarise yourself with these resources and work with us to create a supportive environment that encourages wellbeing and seeks appropriate help when needed.

  • Foster a sense of community by encouraging your child to develop supportive friendships. Help them understand the significance of being there for their friends and seeking help together when facing challenges.

Remember, promoting wellbeing is a collective effort. By staying engaged, supporting your child's emotional journey, and collaborating with school, you can ensure a nurturing environment where they feel safe discussing their worries and seeking the help they need.
