KS3 and KS4 Overview
Our students are our strength, and we are always looking for ways to use their skills and ideas to transform our school. Every student at Brooksbank is given the opportunity to join in leadership activities, giving students the chance to continuously grow as individuals during their time with us.
Student Council (Year 7 – Year 11)
Representatives from every form group who meet weekly with key staff and student ambassadors to discuss school life and help us to ensure that our school is responsive to the feelings of our students. positive contribution to the life of the school. The student council delivers assemblies, campaigns, helps with transition and coordinate fundraising activities throughout the academic year.
Student Leadership Groups
Eco Group
Led by a team of student ambassadors, this group raise awareness of the issues concerning our planet and how even small changes can help us become a more responsible and caring school, towards our planet.
Mental Health and LGBTQ+
Working alongside Mrs Williams and led by a team of student ambassadors, this group are responsible for our school mental health and wellbeing charter. These students work hard to support students and raise awareness of the importance of maintaining our wellbeing.
Literacy
Led by a team of student ambassadors, this group are passionate about the transformative effect that literacy can have on life chances. They support younger students with one-to-one reading interventions, lead a student book club and work alongside Miss Cliberon to run the annual public speaking competition.
Charity and Volunteering
Led by a team of student ambassadors, this group plan events to raise awareness of charitable organisations at appropriate times throughout the year. Many of these students volunteer for local charities in their own time and are a key part of raising awareness of these types of opportunities to our wider student body.
Student Ambassadors
The student ambassador programme is open to all students in Years 8 – 11. Being a student ambassador is a position to be proud of. Every student earns this role via a formal application process and interview. These are key members of our school community making a real difference every day.
We recognise that our student ambassadors are amazing future leaders who have the potential to go out and make a real impact in the world and all complete a 4-year leadership training programme, delivered through an annual residential, where student ambassadors from all TLT secondary schools come together to grow and collaborate.
Ambassador job description
Ambassadors are important to Brooksbank. You will be positive role models to all members of the school and community, building a team spirit and encouraging other students to get involved in school life. You also represent the voice of the students at a high level and can make a real difference.
These duties are shared across the Ambassador team, supporting and encouraging each other to develop our strengths. If there are some areas where you feel less comfortable, please do not be put off applying.
Ambassadors are expected to:
Consistently act as an enthusiastic and positive role model
Be a good listener, taking time to understand students’ ideas and concerns in person so you can raise issues with decision-makers on their behalf
Be a proactive and effective communicator
Work as a team with the other Ambassadors
Actively lead student leadership groups such as the school council or the eco group
Work closely with teachers on areas such as developing student leadership, or planning events or assemblies
Represent the school at important events throughout the year; e.g. Open Evening, Community Lunch, Parents Evenings, Academy Awards etc. This could include speaking, welcoming guests, supporting other activities etc
Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality
Display high levels of organisation and commitment
Be proud of Brooksbank and want to contribute to making it the best school it can be
The Ambassador contract:
To demonstrate exemplary behaviour in lessons and around the school at all times
To participate in after-school events, e.g. Parents Evenings/ Open Evenings etc
To lead key groups throughout the year, e.g. student council/ charity leaders etc
Attend Ambassador meetings when required
Monitor and respond to school emails and communications from key staff, e.g. meeting announcements/ volunteer opportunities
To attend the Ambassadors Training Residential
Ambassadors are appointed for one year.
How will students be selected?
For all roles, students are invited to apply via the form below. Applications received after the deadline cannot be accepted. Shortlisted students will be invited to an interview. Students will be chosen based on their interview and feedback from their teachers and Head of Year.
Head Students (Year 11)
These students earn their position through a rigorous selection process in Year 10 and play a key part in student leadership across school, including working with sixth form leaders, leading the student ambassadors and being the face of the school at key events throughout the year.
