support for families

Brooksbank’s students do not exist in isolation.

We know that their wellbeing and learning can be affected significantly when life at home is difficult. That's why we strive to create a supportive network around our families and offer guidance or signposting to sources of help.

Open communication is key.

If there are any home situations that may be impacting your child, we encourage families to reach out to their form tutor or head of year and we can work together to support your child.

If finances are tight, we strongly encourage families to apply for Pupil Premium funding, which pays for free school meals and additional resources to support disadvantaged students. There are a number of reasons you may be eligible, whether it's based on income, receiving benefits, or having children in care. Please refer to the information below for information on how to apply.

You will also find links below to a number of sources of information, help and support which may be helpful for families in challenging circumstances.

Pupil Premium:

Pupil Premium is additional funding that is provided to schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils. The funding is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who are eligible for free school meals - but it is about much more than that.

There are many benefits to Pupil Premium funding, including:

  • Free school meals

  • Additional funding to support learning, progress and overall achievement

  • A wide variety of interventions to support engagement and learning

  • Support with learning and emotional needs through the purchase of extra resources

  • Additional targeted support for individual vulnerable pupils

  • Additional support staff

Over a quarter of students at Brooksbank are eligible for Pupil Premium funding and it makes a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged pupils. It can help them to achieve their full potential and reach their educational goals. So even if your child brings a packed lunch, we strongly encourage you to apply so we can access this worthwhile extra funding. And don’t worry - no students are ever ‘singled out’ in receiving support.

If you think your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding, you can check your eligibility and apply online.
