Rugby Girls Win Historic National Final

Brooksbank's Year 10 Girls' Rugby Team has fulfilled a burning ambition to win the Champion Schools' National Final!

It was an immensely proud and historic moment for the girls, the school and everyone involved.

The team took the title in convincing style with a 36-10 win over Cardiff's Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf on Saturday, 3rd June, at St James' Park, Newcastle.

Leeds Rhinos youngster Lill Seal was named Player of the Match at the Magic Weekend curtain-raiser after producing a phenomenal four-try 28-point haul.

Lill combined brilliantly with full-back Madison Clegg (her clubmate at Leeds Rhinos and Greetland All-Rounders). Madison scored the other two tries and provided a superb inside pass for Lill's second.

Brooksbank's Year 10 Girls have enjoyed massive support from our local community. There has been an overwhelming groundswell of support manifested in crowdfunding and sponsorship for the talented side. We want to thank everyone who contributed to the Go Fund Me page set up by Hazel Sykes. We are also incredibly thankful to Paul Williamson at Realia Marketing for sponsoring hoodies for the girls.

The win is a testament to the commitment of the team and their supporters and a proud moment in the history of our school.

Lill says, "It's fantastic for girls' rugby league – especially with the Women's Challenge Cup Final at Wembley later this year."

The half-back told the Yorkshire Evening Post, “It has been a fantastic experience; even as a Man United fan, I reckon this is one of the best stadiums in the country, and it’s brilliant we get the chance to play here.
